NCA Clarifies: Fake Notice on Meme Pages Misleads Public
Meme Pages Spread Falsehoods about NCA, Despite Official Denial
LAHORE: On January 1st, 2024, National College of Arts (NCA) faced a challenge when a false notice went viral on meme pages like @sarcaxxm, @tweemss, @haramcaxxm, @grammyyboii, @sxltafa, and others. This notice, falsely claiming to be from NCA, contained inappropriate content about masturbation. This wasn’t the first time meme pages tried to make jokes about NCA, but this time, it went too far as someone put up a printed version on the college walls.
The next morning, pictures of this fake notice spread on social media, causing trouble. NCA swiftly responded, putting up an official notice on their Facebook page at 5 PM on January 2nd. The post clearly stated that the circulated notice was fake, and the college could take strict action against those responsible.
However, the meme pages didn’t stop. They not only kept the fake notice online but also started making fun of artists and NCA. Even though NCA is known as one of the best art institutes in South Asia, cultural differences led to misunderstanding and disrespect for their work.
While memes are about humor, there’s a line between a joke and spreading false information. This incident not only harmed NCA’s reputation but also raised questions about appreciating art in a culture that might not fully understand its value.
As this issue unfolds, it reminds us to respect the hard work of institutions like NCA, instead of falling for sensationalism and spreading false rumors.
